Rep. McDermott In Favor of Online Gambling

Illegal online gambling is supposed to amount to $5.8 billion annually, a figure that would no doubt increase if it weren’t illegal. Jim McDermott and Barney Frank are pushing for legalization. Jim McDermott estimates $42 billion in tax revenue over ten years , would pay for “early childhood education and improved foster care”.

Virginia’s Bob Goodlatte who opposes the legalization , whom the Seattle Times says, he believes “legalizing Internet Gambling would pave a path to addiction and financial ruins”.

The Seattle Weekly has said, Goodlatte’s rejections of legalization of online gambling would also lead him to band church bingo nights. . In any event, McDermott’s bill allows states to opt out of legalization if they’d like, so Virginia’s foster care system would be safe from gambling profits.
